vp3d    Normal kidney

This is a cross section of normal kidney.

Gross inspection should include, size, shape, color, and consistency.

A kidney size is generally about 3 vertebrae long.

The kidneys are normally bean- or horseshoe-shaped,

but the bovine kidney is lobated externally.

The normal cortex-to-medulla ratio in this plane is about 1 : 2 or 1 : 3.

The cortex normally rate as 80% of the renal mass,

a fact that is better understanding in a coronal section , than in a sagittal section.
